William ‘Bill’ Blankenbaker
January 21, 1939 - February 9, 2004
SALEM - William ‘Bill’ Blankenbaker, 65, died Monday. Bill was the youngest of nine children, born January 21, 1939 to May and Ivan Blankenbaker. He lived in Pedee, Ore. until moving to Monmouth in the seventh grade. Bill graduated form Central High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. It was at Central High that he met the love of his life, Sharon (Campbell). They were married on Sept. 7, 1957. They have two children, daughter, Kelly, and son, Jeffery (‘Sammer’). Bill worked for Goodsman Vault for 11 years, before working for Oregon Wilbert Vault Co. He spent the last two years before retiring working for B B & A.
Bill loved all sports, but baseball was his passion. One of his greatest joys was coaching Jeff in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. In later years, he loved watching Sean and Chelsea Bradely play ball.
Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon; daughter, Kelly; son, Jeff; sisters, Iva, Lois, and Jo; and brother, Nick. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Maxine and Nadine; and brothers, Wayne and Jack.
Contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be Thurs., Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, with services at 1 p.m. at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Interment will be at Cloverdale Cemetery.
Our father was a kind, quiet, gentle man who loved his family dearly. If you met him, you loved him.
